Students will learn the basics for introducing themselves in American Sign Language (ASL). They will begin with learning the alphabet with the goal of spelling their name. Next, they will learn numbers 1-10 so they can express their ages. They will conclude by learning basic phrases for introductory interactions (Hello, my name is, I am __ years old, nice to meet you, what is your name?, how old are you?). The lesson will be structured beginning with teacher modeling. Then students will practice as a group with guidance from the teacher. We will conclude with student independently introducing themselves in ASL. 2-5 minutes Intro and finger warm-up 10 mins: alphabet and spelling names 10 mins: numbers and practicing ages 10-15 minutes: basic introduction phrases 10-15 minutes: individual and group practice introducing yourself This is an introductory, interactive class. No previous knowledge necessary.
Learning Goals
Students will learn to use basic phrases for introducing themselves in ASL. They will learn to fingerspell their name and express their age in ASL.
