Class Experience

This class is for learners with some gymnastics experience and knowledge of basic gymnastics and terminology. Learners should be able to easily do a forward and backward roll, handstand, cartwheel, and bridge.

Each class will include a short warm-up, followed four rotations of skills, drills, and strength. For the last ten minutes, I will coach gymnasts as they work on the individual elements of their choice. I have coached recreational and competitive gymnastics up to Level 8, which will cover any gymnastics skill your intermediate level gymnast would like to work on.

Rotation 1: Drills leading to the Skill of the Week
Rotation 2: Balance beam and/or dance work
Rotation 3: Strength and Conditioning
Rotation 4: Free Choice

My coaching style is laid back, theatrical, and focused on verbal positivity ("Pull your rib cage in" rather than "Stop arching your back.")

Skill of the Week
March 19: handstand forward roll
March 26: bridge kickover/ back walkover
April 2: round-off
April 9: Handstand bridge/ front walkover/ tick tock/

Other Details

Parental Guidance
As with any physical fitness routine, gymnastics carries the possibility of injury. Students should be have a wide open space for tumbling, dress comfortably for movement, have a bottle of water nearby to drink, and be supervised in their homes in case of a fall.
Supply List
A small home balance beam is recommended for practice. There are a large variety of home balance beams available in different price ranges. You can find portable balance beams in many places. Message me for links.

Gymnasts who would like to do this practice without a balance beam can use a masking tape or velcro line on the floor.
External Resources
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
