Assessment
As an introduction to Reading, I will assess the students reading to select a just right book and reading instructional level. I will complete informal assessments throughout the lessons. First, during the beginning of the lesson. Then, during the middle of the lesson within small group instruction, and at the end assessing the students completed assignments and tasks.

Class Experience

US Grade 3
In this ongoing guided reading class, the class will meet twice a week for thirty minutes. The students will be presented one grade 3 leveled reader each week. The text will be on varied types of genre each week from such as: Realistic Friction, Fiction, Folktales, Fairy Tales. Mysteries, Nonfiction, Informational Biographies and even Poetry.
The third-grade ongoing guided reading curriculum develops comprehension and fluency and incudes many different types of reading strategies applied to the different genres such as: reading for the main idea, using context clues, developing inferencing skills, drawing conclusions, developing summarizing skill, comparing and contrasting, author's purpose, finding text structure, and asking and answering questions.
The Guided Reading Lessons will be presented through the skills-based model of instruction. The lessons reflect a range of the Reading Literature, common core state standards for third grade level. The components of each lesson includes: A preview of the text and review of specific vocabulary related to text and phonemic awareness. A specific reading skill such as questioning and inferring and a reading strategy or ways to help the reader achieve the reading goal. After the reading is completed, the students will respond to specific questions about the new skills. The second meeting of the week the student will be reintroduced to the weekly text and review prior lesson, vocabulary, reading skill and strategy then reread and practice the text for fluency and continue to apply their newly learned reading skills. The students are guided to ask and respond to questions as they read to develop skills in key ideas and details to synthesize, process, and comprehend their text.

I have outlined the Reading Curriculum below with the skills and book titles we will be reading.
I will project the text during class for your child to read. The following meeting titles and skills will be presented through power point presentation/ Google slides and our bitmoji theme classroom where students will meet to conduct their reading and complete their assignments.

As an elementary classroom teacher, I have taught reading through guided reading for many years. Each type of genre offers new and explicit reading skills and strategies that students are able to apply, use and retain the information that they are presented and have read. Along the way they are building fluency and gaining in their reading abilities. I have seen young readers grow and develop newly found literacy skills in both reading and writing about reading that foster their independence. I have seen students achieve success and growth with starting a new beginning in guided reading.
