In this ongoing course, students will be led through a class to calm their minds and bodies. This class is ideal for any time of the day. In the morning it helps awaken the body and senses. In the afternoons, it's a great way to settle down after a day at school or playing. In the evening before bedtime, it aids in calming the mind and preparing for a restful night's sleep. My main goal in the class is to demonstrate to them the yoga tools that support mindfulness, self-awareness, self-regulation, and stress reduction. The topics we will learn are creating a safe yoga space, breathing techniques, yoga poses, meditation techniques, and self-care. Our classes are structured relatively the same every time. We begin with a time-in, a moment to arrive into our yoga space using a breathing exercise. We then discuss our concept of the day that will be the basis of the gentle yoga sequence we'll do together. The yoga sequence will be accompanied by music in the background that is curated ahead of time by me. All music is age-appropriate and mostly instrumental. I finish up with the relaxation portion which will include a guided meditation. My teaching style is intuitive, supportive, and gentle. I believe my role in the collective of educators my students encounter is to offer them ways to deal with the responsibilities, pressures, and stress of being a child and a student. There's no interaction between students during the class because that generally can be quite stimulating. This course is meant to calm not stimulate. They're welcome to ask questions before we begin and have any discussions they'd like to have via the message board. Learners are asked to check in with their video at the start of class per Outschool policy. This is also an opportunity to ask questions before being muted for the entirety of the class. They have the option to turn off their video as well for the rest of the class. I try my best to make this class inclusive and accessible for all learners. If you have any additional information about your learners that you think will be helpful to me in order to accommodate their learning needs, please feel free to private message me prior to the start of class. Here's a breakdown of weekly topics that will be discussed. Week of Oct 2nd "Breath" - How do I feel when I connect my mind, body, and breath? Week of Oct 9th "Centering" - How can I center myself? Week of Oct 16th "Strength" How can yoga help me be strong? Week of Oct 23rd "Observation"- When and where would I use it in my life? Week of Oct 30th "Mindfulness" - What are emotions? What are sensations?
