What's included
8 live meetings
8 in-class hoursHomework
1-2 hours per week. Notes are provided before each lesson, and should be printed so students can follow along before each lesson.Assessment
Assessment will be provided for homework and an update will be sent to parents at the end of July (midway through the class). This allows us all time to address issues. The class is meant to be a refresher, so it is best to address issues while there is plenty of class time to work on them.Class Experience
US Grade 5
Each week will explore a big idea of 5th grade math. There will be printable materials posted in the classroom 24 hours before the start of class. It will be important for students to print them to follow along. ***This class is for students who have finished grade 5 math and would like a thorough review. ****** I use a blend of traditional and modern teaching styles. I use researched-based methods that have been thoroughly vetted. I do not lecture and expect students to actively participate. During class, I ma share a Youtube video that describes the concept - this will be shared via a shared screen and does not require an individual log-in/account from the student Summer Schedule: Class 1 : 1.1 Decimal Place Value Understanding & Naming Decimals 1.2 Comparing & Ordering Decimals 1.3 Powers of Ten 1.4 Rounding Decimal Class 2 : 2.1 Introduction to Whole Number Multiplication 2.2 More Whole Number Multiplication 2.3 Introduction to Whole Number Division 2.4 Spiral Review Class 3 : 3.1 Adding & Subtracting Decimals 3.2 Multiplying Decimals 3.3 Dividing Decimals Class 4 : 4.1 Introduction to Order of Operations 4.2 More Order of Operations & Expressions 5.1 Fractions as Division 5.2 Review of Fraction Concepts Class 5: 6.1 Introduction to Adding & Subtracting Fractions 6.2 More Adding & Subtracting Fractions & Fraction Problem Solving 6.3 Multiplying Fractions & Real World Fraction Multiplication 6.4 Multiplication as Scaling 6.5 Unit Fraction Division 6.6 Review Class 5 : 7.1 Introduction to Volume Concepts 7.2 More Volume Practice 7.3 Even More Volume Practice Class 6 : 8.1 Metric Measurement Conversions 8.2 Customary Measurement Conversions 8.3 Spiral Review 9.1 Introduction to Two-Dimensional Figures 9.2 Classification of Two-Dimensional Figures Class 7 : 10.1 Coordinate Graphing 10.2 Fraction Line Plots & Function Tables 10.3 Spiral Review
