US Grade 5
We will be teaching Grade 5 Math. The class may have worksheets and activities. We may use games, slides, video, images, manipulatives to teach the material. We will be using the interactive whiteboard on Zoom so students are encouraged to provide their share their responses using a mouse, in the chat box or using a drawing tablet. Previous Grade 4 Math experience or knowledge would be recommended because the curriculum moves quite fast. Tentative Schedule: (Note: progression of lesson may vary depending on the needs and understanding of students) Book A: Week of (Sept 4) Grade 5 Four Operations covers: Mental math, adding, subtraction, multiplication, division, divisibility rules, factors, primes, prime factorization Week of (Sept 11) Problem Solving covers: balance problems and equations, problem solving with bar models Week (Sept 18) Decimals covers: tenths and hundredths, comparing decimals, add and subtract decimals, long multiplication, long division, word problems. Week (Sept 25) Decimals covers: Divide decimals by decimals, converting units, number rules, problem solving Week (Oct 2) Graphing and Statistics covers: coordinate grid, number patterns, line graphs, double and triple line graphs, average Week (Oct 9) Statistics covers: Mean, Mode, Average, Bar graphs, Word problem. Week (Oct 16) Fractions covers: mixed numbers, equivalent fractions, adding and subtracting unlike fractions, word problems. Parental Guidance
We will be using screen share during our class. As well, student may need a Gmail account when we may use Google Slides, Google Docs, Google Sheets or Google Forms for notes or for informal assessments. Student will not need to have a Google account to use Google Docs, Sheets, Forms or Slides.

I have over 17 years of teaching experience in classrooms and in one to one tutoring settings. I believe in lifelong learning. I graduated with a Bachelor of Education in Elementary with a Math and Science specialization. I also completed a Diploma in Early Years Education, Certificate in Kindergarten, Diploma in Special Education, and Certificate in TESL (Teaching English as a Second Language). I have worked with student ages from Pre-K to Grade 12.
I believe every student can learn and each student may learn differently. My job as an educator is to teach students and provide them with new challenges that stimulate their own thinking and inspire them to enjoy learning.
