1-on-1 Math Tutoring: Grade 5 and Beyond

Welcome!

Kindly complete the following three questions upon enrolment:

1. Which areas in math would your child need assistance in? Some examples are: multi-digit multiplication, decimal place value. Kindly provide one or two math skills for us to begin with. We will be working through elements from the common core curriculum.

Through Grade 5, we will work through:

Operations and Algebraic Thinking: 
*Use of brackets in numerical expressions
*Generate two patterns using at least two given rules

Numbers and Operations in Base Ten
*Place value of multi-digit numbers
*Comparing and ordering multi-digit numbers
*Read and write decimals to the thousandths place
*Round decimals to any place
*Multiply multi-digit numbers together
*Add, subtract, multiply, and divide decimals to the hundredths

Numbers and Operations: Fractions
*Add and subtract fractions with unlike denominators (numeric and word problems)
*Multiply two fractions or a whole number by a fraction (numeric and word problems)
*Divide two fractions or a whole number by a fraction (numeric and word problems)

Measurement and Data
*Unit conversions
*Create fraction based line plots
*Understand volume based measurement

Geometry
*Understand the fundamentals of a coordinate system (e.g origin, axes, and coordinate points)
*Two dimensional figures and their properties

2. What is your child's learning style(s)? Is your child an audio, visual, or movement based learner? 

3. What are your child's interests (e.g. dance, soccer, video games)? We can incorporate these interests into the learning to make the learning as fun and engaging as possible. 

During your child's classes, your child and I will work on developing their math skills through a variety of activities (e.g. slides, games, discussion). We will also work on nurturing confidence and motivation toward their skills.

After each class, your child will receive extra questions to complete. As parents/guardians, you will receive a summary of what was worked on in class and where we will be going next in our math tutoring.
