I use flash cards with words and pictures to illustrate the words and expressions then play a pelmanism game with the kids to help them remember. Then we go into learning the first stanza of Rabbie Burns`famous poem - `To a mouse` This is a fun class as children are helped to say colloquial expressions and prepare for a trip to Bonny Scotland.
