This live, online class is structured to meet gifted learners' needs for challenge and novelty! Gifted learners will enjoy opportunities to meet challenges on a variety of topics, stretching their problem-solving skills, flexibility, and creative thinking. Each week, we will start with a jumping-off point, based on one or more of the categories below: * Scientific/Design Innovation * The Arts * Geography * Interpersonal dynamics Class format will proceed in the following sequence: 1. Teacher introduction to the topic & challenge. 2. An interactive discussion addressing problem-solving strategies. 3. Timed work sessions. Learners will have the option of creating work in different modalities, chosen from an activity menu. For example, a learner may choose to create: an artwork, a 3-D model, a piece of writing, a map, a mini-brochure, etc. 4. Share-out: learners present their work. Opportunities will be provided for learners to respond to others' work in a way that encourages innovation. Weekly schedule: Week of April 15: Designing a theater for different preferences & needs Week of April 22: Creating systems to stop the spread of invasive, non-native plants Week of April 29: Inventing ways to help people communicate more successfully Week of May 6: Designing a portable cooling device Week of May 13 (last week of this semester): Creating systems to discourage "digital distraction" More topics to be added! Looking forward to seeing you in this live, online class for gifted kids!

Pennsylvania Teaching Certificate in Special Education
I'm a certified teacher who believes that each mind is one-of-a-kind. Every brain has particular talents and ways of learning!
I'm extremely patient and empathetic. I take the time to imagine my classes from each learner's perspective, guiding them with encouragement.
I started my teaching journey in 2007 as a NYC Teaching Fellow in the Bronx. Two years later, I earned my Master of Science Degree in Teaching Students with Disabilities from the City University of New York. I've taught students on all grade levels in brick-and-mortar schools in New York, Pennsylvania, and Louisiana. I've been teaching online since 2019 through Outschool and other platforms with worldwide reach. I'm currently homeschooling my son, and he enjoys taking Outschool classes, too!
