What's included
1 live meeting
50 mins in-class hours per weekClass Experience
This social club is a creative adventure in exploring both the games we love and what we love about them. Learners will discuss their game design ideas and challenges. Meeting weekly is a great incentive to stay the course in design work. Games take a long time to develop, so it's good to have that check in with other designers. I will present a brief topic at the beginning of each class, it might be a concept, it might be something interesting about game design that I've come across this week. We will explore a few game templates, enhancements and learn some of the terminology that goes along with game design. If you have a design in development, share where you are at in it and perhaps other learners might have tool suggestions or feedback that could move your design along. In this class we learn how to support, give and take constructive criticism, and check in every week. If it's a quiet week, we might explore some easy games we can play together online such as GarticPhone, Jackbox, or Pictionary.

Other Details
Learning Needs
We are a Neuroaffirming Organization! We support learners with different needs and meet them where they are at. We are experienced scribes and enjoy exploring different approaches to writing and creating for each learner.
Parental Guidance
We have a trauma informed policy which means that learners will need to filter out violent or graphic imagery from their presentations. If your game is particularly violent, you can discuss the game mechanics or theme in a general way but specifics won't be allowed.
External Resources
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.

🎲Instructor: Ms. Yvonne, BMus. McGill University, pursuing my MicroMasters in Online Course Design with the University of Maryland. Hi! I'm a Metis artist, musician and micro-farmer. My experiences range from 10 years with IBM as a field tech to professional musician. I am a songwriter and a homeschooling mum of two kids and my current obsession is board game design. I believe that child-led project based learning is the key to engagement. As an ND learner myself and a parent of an ND child, I believe connection and relationship are the first step in education. PBL or Project Based Learning allows us to incorporate all sorts of learning in one fun bundle of exploration.
