US Grade 7 - 10
Beginner Level
The class will provide a fun and interactive look at how our minds work. This class will introduce the topics of memory and attention. The theme of the lesson is 'would you make a good eye witness?' We will go through a number of interactive activities that allow learners to experience first hand the way our memories can often be in accurate followed by an explanaition of why these errors can occur. We also look at our limited attention capacity and why we cannot attend to everything we see. The class will start with a short story to show learners that our memories work by attaching meaning to events. We will look at videos which demonstrate that we can often miss things that happen right in front of us. Learners will also have the chance to be witnesses to a crime (this only involves a 'criminal' walking away with an item that has been left unattended) and test how well they would do as an eye witness. All the activites are a relaxed and fun way to show learners first hand how human memory and attention work.
