Beginner - Intermediate Level
Part 1 of 2 This is the first 8 week section of a 2 part course. In this class, the student will learn how to prepare and deliver a speech, including techniques for controlling nerves, engaging an audience, and structuring a presentation. They'll also learn how to use visual aids effectively and how to handle questions from an audience. The class will be divided into the following weeks and topics: Week 1: Introduction to Public Speaking Basic principles of public speaking How to prepare a speech with AI (Artificial Intelligence) help Techniques for controlling nerves Week 2: Connecting with Your Audience Techniques for engaging an audience Using humor in a speech Body language and tone of voice Week 3: Structuring a Presentation How to structure a speech with AI (Artificial Intelligence) help The importance of a strong opening and conclusion The use of transitions Week 4: Using Visual Aids Types of visual aids How to use visual aids effectively Tips for creating effective slides and graphics Week 5: Handling Questions Techniques for handling questions from an audience How to prepare for questions How to respond to difficult questions Week 6: Using Notes and Teleprompters How to use notes effectively Techniques for using a teleprompter Tips for memorizing a speech Week 7: Persuasive Speaking How to persuade an audience Techniques for creating a persuasive argument The importance of evidence and examples Week 8: Impromptu Speaking Techniques for impromptu speaking How to think on your feet Tips for handling unexpected situations The flexible schedule (Recorded Flex Class) allows your learners to watch the pre-recorded videos and do them at a time that is FUN for them! You can also spend extra time on the topics your child is most interested in. Since this is a flex class with no live meetings, students can log in at a convenient time to complete the week's lesson. We will be going through each week as a group, and I will post the lesson weekly (depending on which day you started). The videos will contain the information required to give students a good understanding of each topic, and each one will include homework for the students to undertake during the week as part of a project. After watching each video and completing the homework assignments, students will be provided with feedback and specific next steps on how to improve or adapt. Time frame for the Week: Mondays - The teacher will post the information needed for the week. Students can submit questions. Tuesdays - Wednesday - The teacher can answer any questions pertaining to the topic of the week. The students will need to complete any homework assignments and answer any questions in the discussion. Thursday - Students need to have all tasks completed and uploaded in the classroom for teacher feedback and discussion. Students will discuss it among themselves. Friday - The teacher will provide feedback to the class and individual students. Saturday - Sunday - The teacher will be available to answer any questions that the students may have for the week or the next week. Homework will take approximately 30-60 minutes per week, and student progress will be assessed through teacher feedback on homework assignments and speeches delivered in class. No prior experience is required for this class.
