US Grade 1 - 2
Learners around this age group are able to write simple but complete sentences, and they are beginning to understand when to use capital letters, commas, and periods. In their writing, you'll see a combination of invented and correct spelling (especially words from a word wall or vocabulary list). Once the basics are established we can explore different types of writing! This ongoing class will focus on a specific type of writing style each month. We will rotate through the following writing units: Narrative, Opinion, Procedural, Non Fiction, and Fiction! Week of August 8th: Narrative Writing Week of August 15th: Narrative Writing Week of August 22nd: Narrative Writing Week of August 29th: Narrative Writing Week of October 5: Opinion Writing We will meet one day a week for an educational mini lesson(brief focused lesson), movement break, followed by independent writing time where learners will spend time working on creating a story based off of the monthly style of writing. I will connect with each writer during this time to offer assistance, provide suggestions, and answer questions. Skills such as capitalization, punctuation, complete sentences, finger spacing will be spiraled into each class. We will celebrate during the last 5 minutes of each class with students having the option to show and share their work! Students will learn to be confident in their writing and have fun while doing it! This ongoing class is highly engaging, educational, and fun. I look forward to seeing your little learner in my classroom!
