⚡Let's explore all things Ancient Roman! ⚡ Each week we will have a pre-recorded video lesson, followed by discussion in the OutSchool classroom and interactive learner assignments Each week learners will be given an assignment to complete and share with the rest of the class in the form of videos, crafts, escape rooms, written work and fun quizzes. We will start the first week with a lesson on the Ancient Roman Empire and move onto learning about the Roman games, emperors, gods, inventions and Roman daily life. Although this type of class does not meet live on Zoom there is a lot of interaction between the learners and myself with the children being encouraged to be part of our class. The following break-down of the course and the subjects we will be learning Week 1: This week we will learn about the making of the Roman Empire. The children will learn what the empire was, when it was and how the Roman Empire changed the world. Some of the most important people from the Roman Empire are discussed and their lives looked at in detail. After the lesson the learners will be expected to create their own craft project, students will be given details and directions. They will then be expected to share pictures of their crafts in the classroom and comment on other's work also. Week 2: This week we will learn about Ancient Roman gladiators and games. The children will learn the types of games the Romans played, why they were important and the role and life of gladiators. After the lesson the learners will be invited to take part in a fun escape room game, where they can work as part of a team to solve puzzles using the information they have learnt in the lesson. The learners will be expected to complete the puzzles and support each other with clues they discover. Week 3: This week we will learn about Ancient Roman religion and gods. The children will learn who the Romans worshipped, how they changed to Christianity and the different types of gods in Roman religion. After the lesson there will be a fun online quiz for the children to take on the gods and their role in Ancient Roman life. They will also be given the chance to add to a class Roman god story which will be created out of entries from learners. Week 4: This week we will learn about Roman inventions. The children will learn the types of things the Romans invented, what they were good at and practice using Roman numerals. After the lesson the learners will be expected to design their own invention, with support from the class the children will then share and help to improve other learner’s inventions. Week 5: This week we will learn about the Roman Emperors. The children will learn how Rome changed from a republic to an empire, what a democracy is, what an emperor did and why the Roman Empire was successful. After the lesson the learners will be expected to complete a web quest to research their own information and contribute this information to the class fact page, which will be made up of information gathered from the children enrolled Week 6: In our final week we will look at what daily life was like for the Ancient Romans. The children will learn the roles and jobs in Ancient Roman Society. How children lived and the parts of life that were important to them. After the lesson children will be asked to record and share a short video diary in the role of an Ancient Roman and to view and share thoughts on other learner's diary entries.
