Learners will learn how to structure each paragraph needed for an essay. Week 1: The Paragraph Students will be introduced to the structure of writing a paragraph. Students will learn about topic sentences, supporting details, and the closing sentence. Students will practice identifying the different parts in a paragraph. Week 1Lesson 1Week 1: The ParagraphStudents will be introduced to the structure of writing a paragraph. Students will learn about topic sentences, supporting details, and the closing sentence. Students will practice identifying the different parts in a paragraph. Students will select a prompt and submit their paragraph. Students will receive a review on their work.Week 2Lesson 2Week 2: The EssayStudents will learn how to structure the introduction and conclusion. Introduction: (the hook/attention-getter) and writing a thesis statement. Conclusion: I will teach the 'upside-down' introduction method. Students will learn about the basic outline format. Students will be given three options for their writing prompt. Students will submit a three paragraph essay for review.Week 3Lesson 3Week 3: Introduction to Writing 4-5 Paragraph EssayStudent will learn how to add more detail to their body paragraphs. Student will practice structuring paragraphs (topic sentence, main idea, and thesis statements). Student will write choose from writing an informative, persuasive, or compare/contrast essay, receive feedback, and write a final revised version.

Homework Offered
Students will complete written assignments outside of class. Assignment #1: Writing a body paragraph Assignment #2: Writing a three paragraph essay Assignment #3: Writing a five paragraph essay along with a revision.1 - 2 hours per week outside of class
Assessments Offered
Work will receive feedback, both in text and on a rubric, for the final essay. The paragraph and three paragraph essay will receive a review but a revision will not be required.Grades Offered
