Welcome! This intensive summer writing class is designed to elevate your essay writing skills to new heights. Over the course of six weeks, we will delve into three key genres of essay writing: Descriptive Writing, Compare and Contrast, and Personal Narrative/Reflection Essays. Tentative Schedule: Week 1 : Descriptive Writing Techniques and Assignment - Master the art of vivid description and sensory language to bring your essays to life. Week 2: Compare and Contrast Writing Techniques and Assignment - Explore strategies for effectively comparing and contrasting ideas, events, or concepts. Weeks 3: Personal Narrative/Reflection Essay Techniques and Assignment - Learn how to craft compelling personal narratives and reflective essays that resonate with your readers. The class is structured around a dynamic combination of lectures, interactive discussions, peer review sessions, and hands-on writing exercises. Each two week period focuses on a specific essay genre, allowing you to progressively build your skills. I will employ a variety of teaching methods to cater to different learning styles. Lectures will be delivered through engaging PowerPoints and model essays will be presented for analysis. Mini-lessons addressing common writing weaknesses will be incorporated to enhance your overall proficiency. My teaching style is interactive, encouraging active participation and collaboration.
