Join Ms.Shanna for an engaging and diverse literary adventure as we spend each week discovering a new picture book. 📖🌅🚀🏞️🌠 🕓This class will meet twice per week on a weekly basis. That way you can join for as many weeks and new books as you would like! Every week we will use a new picture book to look at a wide variety of literary concepts. Some examples include: 1️⃣ Author’s Purpose 2️⃣ Literary Themes 3️⃣ Text Connections 4️⃣ Character Traits 5️⃣ Story Arcs 6️⃣ Retelling/Recalling Parts of a Story 7️⃣ Comparing and Contrasting 8️⃣ Inferencing These skills and many more play a key role in developing early literacy and strong readers. The ability to think critically and analyze a text in detail allows students to deepen and broaden their understanding and apply these skills as they continue to grow in their reading. ✏️As a way to monitor your students progress each week there will be a graphic organizer available to print out specific to each text. These graphic organizers will help students to organize their thinking while engaging in a new reading concept. 📝Each week there will be an optional comprehension quiz available to parents upon request. This quiz can be given by parents at home to gauge how their student was able to interpret the book. ❓Is this class right for my student❓ 📚Here is a sample list of some of the Books that will be covered in this class:📚 A Bad Case of Stripes by David Shannon Islandborn by Junot Diaz Mother of Sharks by Melissa Cristina Marquez Owl Moon by Jane Yolen Stellaluna by Janell Cannon The Day You Begin by Jacqueline Woodson The Proudest Blue by Ibtihaj Muhammad Fry Bread a Native American Family Story by Kevin Noble Mailard Pete the Cat by Kimberly and James Dean Just Ask be Different be Brave be You by Sonia Sotomayor The Sour Grape by Jory John and Pete Oswald What Do You Do With An Idea by Kobi Yamada
