✨ What's coming up this week: ✨ 🗓️Feb 3-7 Phonics Skill: Letters Kk (kite), Ee (egg), and Vv (volcano): Letter Names, Sound, Formation VC/CVC Words: pet, vet, get Phonological Awareness: Rhyming words, first sounds, final sounds, blending compound words, segmenting words, adding words, deleting words, substituting words, and counting words in a sentence 🥳 Welcome to our small reading group class, Early Reading Beginners, for kindergarten and first grade! In this class, learners will be introduced to early reading skills using: 🎧 phonological awareness games 📖 high-quality decodable sentences & passages 📝 activity pages to practice the phonics skills 🗓️ Each week, we’ll have a different phonics skill that we’ll explore together. We’ll have opportunities to read together and practice the skills we’re learning in fun, active ways. 🏫 Class size will be kept small to provide individualized instruction. Each student will have a chance to practice reading with the teacher's assistance. 📚 This class is perfect for learners in kindergarten or first grade. We will start by learning/reviewing letter sounds, and then begin learning to blend letter sounds together to make CVC words. We'll eventually be able to start reading full sentences as well! 🗒️ Note: I will include a mixture of my own created content and some decodables and activities will be from resources I have purchased. The stories included will be on a kindergarten/first grade reading level. ❗One last important reminder about this course: If you chose to pay for this course weekly, it will function as a payment plan. Since this is a course, there will be weeks where we're scheduled for a break (like Christmas break, for example). During these weeks, you will still be charged for the classes, but throughout the time of the course, you will get all of your allocated lessons that you have paid for. Once you have paid for the entire course, you won't pay anymore, and we will continue to meet until the course ends. If you leave before the end of the course please contact support and they will ensure that you haven’t overpaid. Please contact support if you have any questions about how the format works! ✨Here’s a break-down of what we’ll be doing each week:✨ 🗓️Nov 11-15 Skill: Intro to the Alphabet & My Name 🗓️Nov 18-22 Skill: Letter Mm 🦃Nov 25-29: Thanksgiving Break, No class! 🗓️Dec 2-6 Skill: Letters Ss, Aa 🗓️Dec 9-13 Skill: Letters Rr, Tt VC/CVC Words: at, mat, sat, rat 🗓️Dec 16-20 Skill: Letters Ll, Nn VC/CVC Words: an, ran, man, tan ⛄Dec 23-27: Winter Break, No class! 🗓️Dec 30-Jan 3 Skill: Letters Bb, Oo VC/CVC Words: on, rot, lot, not 🗓️Jan 6-10 Skill: Letters Pp, Cc VC/CVC Words: cat, pot, bat, cob 🗓️Jan 13-17 Skill: Letters Ii, Ff CVC Words: it, in, fin, pit 🗓️Jan 20-24 Skill: Letters Dd, Hh VC/CVC Words: hat, hit, dot, fan 🗓️Jan 27-31 Skill: Letters Uu, Gg VC/CVC Words: hug, gum, dug 🗓️Feb 3-7 Skill: Letters Kk, Ee, Vv CVC Words: pet, vet, get 🗓️Feb 10-14 Skill: Letters Xx, Jj, Ww CVC Words: fox, wet, jut 🗓️Feb 17-21 Skill: Letters Yy, Qq, Zz VC/CVC Words: yam, jam, zip, zit 🗓️Feb 24-28 Skill: Assess Letter-Sound Recognition 🗓️March 3-7 Skill: Review Short Vowels (A, I) CVC Words: cat, map, big, did HFW: a 🗓️March 10-14 Skill: Review Short Vowels (E, O, U) CVC Words: red, box, cut HFW: I 🗓️March 17-21 Skill: Digraphs SH, TH CVC Words: dish, with HFW: the 🗓️March 24-28 Skill: Digraphs CH, WH CVC Words: chin, when HFW: see 🗓️March 31-Apr 4 Skill: Digraphs QU, CK CVC Words: quiz, quick, duck, peck HFW: go 🗓️Apr 7-11 Skill: Review Digraphs and Sound of "th" CVC Words: ship, chop, math, chick HFW: can 🗓️Apr 14-18 Skill: CVC Word Families -at, -an CVC Words: cat, rat, man, fan HFW: me 🗓️Apr 21-25 Skill: CVC Word Families -am, -ap CVC Words: map, tap, jam, ram HFW: look 🗓️Apr 28-May 2 Skill: CVC Word Families -op, -ot, -ob CVC Words: mop, top, not, pot, cob, sob HFW: you 🗓️May 5-9 Skill: CVC Word Families Review short a and short o CVC Words: cat, rat, man, fan HFW: like 🗓️May 12-16 Skill: CVC Word Families -im, -ip CVC Words: Kim, Tim, lip, sip HFW: is 🗓️May 19-23 Skill: CVC Word Families -in, -ill (Double final consonants) CVC Words: tin, bin, bill, will HFW: are 🗓️May 26-30 Skill: CVC Word Families -ug, -ut CVC Words: hug, mug, nut, cut HFW: they 🗓️June 2-6 Skill: CVC Word Families -ed, -et CVC Words: led, red, met, wet HFW: for 🗓️June 9-13 Skill: CVC Words ending with -s CVC Words: cats, dogs, kids HFW: all 🗓️June 16-20 Skill: Initial Consonant Blends with s Words: snap, step HFW: no 🗓️June 23-27 Skill: Initial Consonant Blends with l Words: flop, glad HFW: my 🗓️June 30-July 4 Skill: Initial Consonant Blends with r Words: crab, trot HFW: love 🗓️July 7-11 Skill: Long Vowels: a and o with silent e Words: lake, rake, poke, joke HFW: and 🗓️July 14-18 Skill: Long Vowels: i and u with silent e Words: like, bite, Luke, mule HFW: with 🗓️July 21-25 Skill: Reviewing All Long Vowels & Assess All Material

Learning Needs
This class is intentionally designed to support learners with unique learning needs. The way that I teach reading (structured literacy approach) is aligned with the Science of Reading principles which support students with Dyslexia.
Parental Guidance
Note: We may be using some sensory materials in this class, such as playdough, which may contain wheat and could cause an allergic reaction if ingested in those sensitive to wheat gluten or with Celiac disease. You are always welcome to substitute an alternative sensory material if needed.
Supply List
🎨📝Students will need to bring basic school and art supplies to class for our learning activities and games, such as pens, pencils, crayons, markers, colored pencils, playdough, small manipulatives (like counting bears, counting cubes, or pom poms), clear page protector folders, and extra paper. A white board, dry erase markers, and eraser would also be helpful to have for writing practice. If you have magnetic letters, you can bring those too! 📨Enrolled students will have access to a downloadable PDF each week (check the classroom posts) with all of the printables and other information you will need for our upcoming class. ✅You will be able to find the weekly post with the attached PDF in the classroom (it should be posted on Sunday morning at 9 AM EST). Just go into the classroom and scroll down until you see the weekly post. This is also where you can find announcements and any extra information and activities for the class. ❗Make sure you keep up with classroom posts! These do not always go to your email, so you will need to go into the classroom to access them.

Bachelor's Degree in English from Bob Jones University
Hi there! 😊
I'm Ms. Elizabeth, an early literacy and reading tutor for grades Pre-K through 2nd Grade. I also teach online preschool for ages 3-5 as well as art and reading/writing classes for ages 6-9.
My classes are fun, interactive, and highly engaging for young learners. I incorporate music, movement, stories, art, and hands-on learning activities for a holistic learning experience. I believe that a child-centric, play-based approach is best for young children as they learn.
I strive to create classes that spark my students' interests, engage with their curiosity, and inspire them to go even further in their learning. I love seeing my students get excited about reading, writing, creating, and exploring.
For my early reading tutoring classes, I follow the research-based science of reading principles, including teaching oral language, phonological awareness and phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, reading/language comprehension, and writing. I'm committed to helping your child learn the basic literacy skills they need to succeed in their reading journey. I use high-quality materials and individualize each tutoring lesson to fit your child's specific learning needs.
I've been teaching online for over 4 years. I began my teaching journey as an online ESL teacher, and then transitioned into teaching online preschool and early reading/writing classes.
I've been working with children for over 10 years as a babysitter, nanny, and tutor.
I have a Bachelor's degree in English/Creative Writing. Currently, I'm working on getting an associate's degree in early childhood care and education.
In addition to teaching, I also write fiction for young adults.
I love spending time at home with my husband and our two kitty babies, Kiki and Teddy. Once in a while, you may get to see a kitty in class too!
