✨ Theme for the upcoming week: ✨ 🗓️Apr 29-May 3 Skill: Glued Sounds 🥳 Welcome to our small reading group class, Reading Beginners, for first and second grade! This class is a great follow-up to my Early Reading Beginners class for kinder and early first grade. 📚 In this class, learners will continue to develop their reading skills through decodable passages, activity pages that go along with the text, and fun phonics games and activities. Each week, we’ll have a different skill that we’ll explore together. We’ll have opportunities to read together and practice the skills we’re learning in fun, active ways. Class size will be kept small to provide individualized instruction. Each student will have a chance to practice reading with the teacher's assistance. This class is perfect for learners in first and second grade. Decoding skills are required as we will be reading passages aloud together. If your child is not decoding yet, please check out my other class for Early Reading Beginners. *Note: I will include a mixture of my own created content and some decodables and activities will be from resources I have purchased. The stories included will be on a first/second grade reading level. Here’s a break-down of what we’ll be doing each week: *Topics may change depending on the reading level and skill knowledge of the students enrolled in class. If I determine that students need extra practice on a skill, we may spend more time on that skill. We may also circle back to previously taught skills if there are gaps in phonics knowledge.* 🗓️Feb 26-Mar 1 Skill: Consonant S-Blends 🗓️Mar 4-8 No Class This Week 🗓️Mar 11-15 Skill: Consonant L-Blends 🗓️Mar 18-22 Skill: Consonant L-Blends 🗓️Mar 25-29 Skill: Consonant R-Blends 🗓️Apr 1-5 Spring Break: No Class 🗓️Apr 8-12 Skill: Ending Consonant Blends 🗓️Apr 15-19 Skill: Ending Consonant Blends: -mp, -nd 🗓️Apr 22-26 Skill: Consonant Blend Review 🗓️Apr 29-May 3 Skill: Glued Sounds (ng) 🗓️May 6-10 Skill: Glued Sounds (nk) No class for the summer! Teacher expertise and credentials
Hi there! 😊
I'm Ms. Elizabeth, an early literacy and reading tutor for grades Pre-K through 2nd Grade. I also teach online preschool for ages 3-5 as well as art and reading/writing classes for ages 6-9.
My classes are fun, interactive, and highly engaging for young learners. I incorporate music, movement, stories, art, and hands-on learning activities for a holistic learning experience. I believe that a child-centric, play-based approach is best for young children as they learn.
I strive to create classes that spark my students' interests, engage with their curiosity, and inspire them to go even further in their learning. I love seeing my students get excited about reading, writing, creating, and exploring.
For my early reading tutoring classes, I follow the research-based science of reading principles, including teaching oral language, phonological awareness and phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, reading/language comprehension, and writing. I'm committed to helping your child learn the basic literacy skills they need to succeed in their reading journey. I use high-quality materials and individualize each tutoring lesson to fit your child's specific learning needs.
I've been teaching online for over 4 years. I began my teaching journey as an online ESL teacher, and then transitioned into teaching online preschool and early reading/writing classes.
I've been working with children for over 10 years as a babysitter, nanny, and tutor.
I have a Bachelor's degree in English/Creative Writing. Currently, I'm working on getting an associate's degree in early childhood care and education.
In addition to teaching, I also write fiction for young adults.
I love spending time at home with my husband and our two kitty babies, Kiki and Teddy. Once in a while, you may get to see a kitty in class too!
