Class Experience

Are you an anime or manga fan who wants to learn how to draw in the style? Get started with this single course all about learning how to draw manga portraits. Better yet, draw yourself as a manga character! We will dive right in to learning the basics of manga/anime style eyes, noses, mouths, and expressions, and then we will take those skills and apply them to our own faces.

Artists are encouraged to ask questions, discuss, and share ideas on how to put a creative spin on their drawings. This is a beginner class, ideal for students who have little to no experience with anime drawing.

I find that a teacher is only as good as their flexibility. I use structure to guide students in achieving certain skills, but I leave the experimentation, creativity, and imagination up to them! I actively strive to learn from my students as much as they can learn from me.
Learning Goals
Artists will learn the basics of anime/manga portrait drawing. They will understand basic general placement of facial features in portraits.

I received my AA in studio art in 2016, and I have been teaching art since 2020, when I led a paint tutorial for a sixth grade birthday party that was almost cancelled due to the pandemic. I really enjoyed the experience and became excited about the idea of sharing art and creativity with other artists. I love both the science and subjectiveness of art--I think there's a lot we can learn from it, and I can't wait to share it with your learners!
