Class Experience

US Grade 3 - 6
In this one-time, 50 minute class, we'll learn about Japanese mythology through original sources and popular culture renditions from anime/manga (like Naruto, Dragon Ball Z, and One Piece) and movies (like Studio Ghibli's Spirited Away and Princess Mononoke)

these sources will teach us:

- the Shinto mythological creation story of the universe

- the iconic monsters and stories of Japanese mythology

- the cultural roots of the mythology in ancient Confucian, Imperial, and religious traditions

and more.

Students are encouraged to engage and ask questions, but are welcome to passively absorb if they prefer.

Optional Homework: Write a reflection on what you learned to promote knowledge retention.

Finally, I recommend checking out my Teacher Profile, especially my Teaching Philosophy section, to make sure this is a fit for your student.

I also offer this class as a multi-week course on World Mythology: https://outschool.com/classes/world-mythology-in-popular-culture-greek-norse-japanese-egyptian-hinduism-bKUIqK1o

and as a Self-Paced Class: https://outschool.com/classes/mythology-in-popular-culture-greek-norse-japanese-and-egyptian-btSI90jn#usu529M6QA

if your student prefers one of those methods of instruction.

See you in class!
