Class Experience

Every year many children are bitten by dogs, usually by a family pet or a neighbor’s dog. Almost all of these bites are preventable if children are taught how to behave around dogs.

Learners will become familiar with the different ways dogs communicate by learning about a dog's body language and the sounds they use to express how they are feeling. They will learn how to safely approach and greet a dog, whether it's at home or one they meet out on a walk. We will discuss how we should behave when approached by a stray or loose dog.

This class is designed to engage the learner. To teach the course, I will use slides, direct instruction, discussion, videos, images, interactive questions/games

Learners will interact with the teacher and fellow classmates by sharing their own personal experiences, giving their opinions and reactions to questions that I ask.

Profile
Teacher expertise and credentials
🐶 I am a small animal veterinarian from Nova Scotia, Canada.

🐰 From an early age, veterinary medicine was clearly my passion. While many little girls were playing with their dolls, I was providing veterinary care to my stuffed animals in my pretend veterinary hospital.

🐱 I obtained my Bachelor of Science in biology at Acadia University, my Masters of Science in bacteriology from Queen’s University, and my Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from the Atlantic Veterinary Hospital at the University of Prince Edward Island.

🐺 Since then, I have worked in many fields of veterinary medicine: private practice, emergency medicine, and even a mobile veterinary clinic.

🐴 I am now very excited to share my love for animals and veterinary medicine with the next generation. I hope to inspire, ignite and empower aspiring animal lovers and future veterinarians.
