Class Experience

In this ONE-TIME class students will learn basic pop-up techniques and make their own pop-up cards.

No prior knowledge needed, just creativity!

Please see below supplies for this course.

Students will cut, fold, and glue paper to create a standing Pop-up System (examples of fold will be provided in class) . This is a fun 3D project where students will experiment with a variety of paper (sketchbook, card stock, bond paper, colourful construction paper..) and practice cutting and folding to create a pop-up card that "pops-up" when opened.
We will focus on the "scoring" technique and on learning a few basic ways how to make these cards. I will demonstrate each of the techniques and students will follow.

I offer this as a 2-Week Course or a Summer Camp (4 classes) because this skill, just like any other, takes time to learn and master. In this one-time class students will learn some basics and get a little preview of what a 2-week course would look like. They will come out of this class with a new skill!

Let's have fun together!

Students will learn about different kinds of paper that can be used to make these pop-up cards, we will focus on the scoring and the cutting technique. We will then learn the "staircase" or "box" method. After that students will make their own "box" designs. It can be a CHRISTMAS CARD full of gift boxes or even a BIRTHDAY CAKE, or stairs in a CASTLE! Students are encouraged to draw and decorate their cards to tell the story. We will learn how to glue two sheets of paper to create a standing Pop-Up System if time allows.

Learning Goals

Students will experiment with a variety of paper of different sizes, colours and thickness and practice cutting and folding different shapes (organic and geometric). The result is to have fun and create a pop-up card by adding some drawings to complete the story. They can even decorate the card the way they like with the materials they already have.
