In this one time class, learners will be introduced to decimals for the first time. We will discuss the names of each place value and how to read decimals correctly. We will talk about how decimals are used to represent numbers less than one whole. Learners will also think of some real world examples of when we use decimals. Students will have the chance to ask questions and participate in discussion to discover the world of decimals. This course can be taken alone, or also in conjunction with the Intro to Decimals Part 2 class.

Welcome! My name is Teacher Shannon and I am so excited to meet you! I have been working with students from all ages for over ten years and I am ready for you to join the party! Our classes together will focus on a range of things from fun with fractions to diving into life underwater. Don’t worry - our time together will be boring and uninteresting. Not! Your class will be full of excitement and high energy as we approach learning in an exciting way. I have a passion for connecting with students and helping them feel as if their teacher really “gets” them. My experiences have helped prepare me to meet the needs of students of every type. Previously, I was a fifth grade classroom teacher and I have a Masters of Arts in Teaching, a Bachelors of Science in Interdisciplinary Liberal studies, and a minor in elementary education. Outside of teaching, I am a PADI certified professional scuba diver and I hope to bring my love for all things aquatic into our classroom. I look forward to seeing you soon!
