Week 1Lesson 1Ayrshire and Milking ShorthornMy lesson will be about the Ayrshire and Milking Shorthorn breeds. We will look into the past present and future of these dairy cattle breeds. We will also look into the genetic traits that these breeds have to offer the dairy industry.Week 2Lesson 2Brown Swiss and GuernseyMy lesson will be about the Brown Swiss and Guernsey breeds. We will look into the past present and future of these dairy cattle breeds. We will look into the past present and future of these dairy cattle breeds. We will learn about EPDs and the various genetic traits that are beneficial to the dairy industry.Week 6Lesson 6Introduction to Dairy Cattle ManagementMy lesson will give students an insight to all aspects of dairy cattle management. We will look at the dairy cow life cycle and learn about calving, animal health, milk quality, nutrition and reproduction.
This class is taught in English.
Students will improve their knowledge of the six dairy cattle breeds in the United States. They will be able to defend their favorite breed of dairy cow with facts! They will learn about dairy cow and heifer judging and dairy genetics. They will also get a glimpse of dairy cattle management as that will be entire classes of it's own at a later date.
I have a Bachelors and Masters Degree in Animal Science and I have worked in the dairy industry for 15 years.
Homework Offered
There will be a few vocabulary worksheets due and each student will need to write a one page essay about which dairy cattle breed is their favorite and why.0 - 1 hours per week outside of class
