Class Experience

Class Description
In this beginner crochet class, students will learn the fundamental skills needed to start their crochet journey. Through easy-to-follow video tutorials, I will guide you step-by-step, from understanding the basic stitches to creating your first crochet project. This class is designed for complete beginners, so no prior experience is required. By the end of the course, you’ll be able to create your own crochet items and build confidence in your craft.

Class Experience
This class is entirely self-paced, with pre-recorded videos that students can watch at their convenience. Each lesson is broken down into manageable steps to ensure that learning crochet feels fun and accessible. The class is designed for students to progress at their own speed, and they will have access to downloadable resources such as stitch charts and project patterns to supplement the video lessons.

What will be taught?
Students will learn:

How to hold a crochet hook and yarn
Basic crochet stitches such as the chain, single crochet, and double crochet
How to read simple crochet patterns
Techniques to change colors and finish projects
Tips on maintaining tension and troubleshooting common mistakes
What topics will you cover?
The course will cover:

The tools and materials needed for crochet
The anatomy of stitches and yarn
Basic stitches and their variations
How to create a simple crochet project like a scarf or dishcloth
Techniques for finishing and adding embellishments
How is your class structured?
The class is structured in a series of short, focused video lessons. Each video will cover one specific skill or topic, building on the previous lesson. This allows students to revisit any part of the class as needed, ensuring they can master each step before moving on. Supplementary resources like written instructions and project ideas will be provided for additional practice.

How will you teach?
I will use a combination of visual demonstrations and clear verbal instructions in the videos. Each lesson will focus on a single skill, with slow-paced guidance to ensure students can follow along. The videos will show multiple angles of the crochet process to make learning easier, and students can pause or rewind the video if they need extra practice.

What's your teaching style?
My teaching style is supportive and encouraging. I break complex concepts into simple steps, making sure that even the most novice learners can feel successful. I use plenty of visual examples and hands-on demonstrations, focusing on building skills progressively. I aim to create a low-pressure learning environment where students feel comfortable experimenting and making mistakes as they learn.

How much will learners get to interact with you?
Since this is a self-paced class, direct interaction with me will be limited to specific checkpoints. However, I will be available through a class discussion board to answer questions and provide feedback on student progress. Additionally, I encourage students to share their projects and questions, which I can respond to in weekly video check-ins.

Hi Families!

Thank you for your interest in me as your student's teacher!

My passion is teaching math to students in grades 4-6, providing homework help for classes, and also teaching phonics and beginning readers. I have been teaching for 8 years and have an additional 10 years of experience working with children ages 2-13 in a school-like setting. I hold a degree in Elementary Education and a Master's degree in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Minnesota. I currently hold a state teaching license for grades K-8.

I believe that anyone can learn and that everyone has a unique perspective. My focus is on recognizing and adapting to the various ways in which students learn, ensuring that each child can succeed in their own way.

Outside of teaching, I love to create. Whether it’s sewing, painting, or crafting, I find joy in bringing new ideas to life through my hands-on projects.
