Class Experience

US Grade 3 - 5
In this ongoing class, young writers will learn to begin forming sentences by thinking creatively about different pictures they see. Students will first have a brief lesson on sentence and story structure in each class. This will be kept brief, so students can spend more time writing their sentences.
This is an excellent class for learners who are interested in writing, need to learn more about story and sentence structure, like writing from prompts, and are willing to be creative with their stories.
After a brief lesson (5-10 minutes), students will be given a picture prompt and time to write. Depending on the class size, the time to write may vary. I will allow as much time to write as possible with periodic check-ins to the students to help build sentences, stretch the story, and allow them to explore their imagination by talking it out with me and their peers.
At the end of class, students will be encouraged to share their writing with their peers. I will not force anyone to share their writing, but I would encourage each child to be brave and work on their speaking and presenting skills.

Note: this class does not focus on spelling or grammar. Help is given, but it is not the primary focus. If this is your hope please check out my Introduction to Creative Writing 8 week course or reach out to me for private tutoring.

*I will be taking a break from Outschool beginning in 2024. If you send me a message or a class request I cannot promise you will hear back quickly. I am back in school for my MFA in writing. This will be my focus for a while. Thank you for understanding! Have a wonderful day!*

My name is Emalie and I consider myself a lifelong learner. This is why I pursued my BA in Creative Writing and Africana Studies, got my teaching certificate, and then decided to pursue my MA in English and Creative Writing.

The ability to help others find their creative voice is my passion! Creative Writing is where I shine as a teacher! I love helping young adults and children find a way to let their voices be heard. I am passionate about writing and teaching children and young adults to love expressing themselves through the written word.

Reading and Writing are a way to connect with the world and people around us. I hope to be a person who can foster your love of the English language and the written word.
