US Grade 8 - 10
Students will be using creative writing prompts to improve their writing skills and enjoyment of writing, no matter the student's level. We will look at tips from writers and authors (Natalie Goldberg, Austin Kleon, Mark Twain, and more) to study the craft of writing. Taking these tips, students will explore free writing and participate in a supportive feedback process. Work will culminate in presentation and/or publication. Week 1: Learn the Truth of the 10-minute Write & Feedback Process (Writer: Natalie Goldberg) Week 2: Steal Like An Artist - Feedback Process Clarification (Artist: Austin Kleon) Week 3: Using Our Senses and Description (Writer: Mark Twain) Week 4: Dialogue and Point of View (Writer: TBD) Week 5: Preparing for Publication or Presentation Week 6: Presentations or Publication Work Note the Presentation or Publication Work Week will give options that meet the students' needs and wants. They can present in front of others, publish on a large scale, or publish it for an audience of their choosing - with whatever they feel most comfortable.

Teacher expertise and credentials
I am excited to teach English and Reading classes to your students, as well as creative writing classes and reading book club groups. I love connecting to students to help them discover and grow in their strengths, and assist them in addressing challenges. I love to incorporate creativity, community, and projects in my teaching. I also offer yoga/mindful, exercise, and theatre classes. I have taught English Language Arts and Reading for 15 years, as well as have practiced yoga for 12 years and taught it for a few years. I am a certified teacher for ELA grades 6-12 and a certified Reading Specialist for grades K-12. For fun, I like to kayak, engage in the arts - particularly theatre, and explore the world with friends.
