Class Experience

Join me in this ongoing course where we work together to sharpen our creative writing skills. Each class will focus on a different type of creative writing. These include: free verse poetry, rhyming poetry, structured poetry, scripts, journals, blogs, letters, story telling, imagery writing, & more!

This class will have the following general format:
Creative Writing Prompt & Share Time (15 Minutes)
English Mini Lesson (10 Minutes)
Focus story/poem discussion (20 minutes)
Writing Game (10 Minutes)
Wrap Up/Optional Homework (5 minutes)

We will listen to music, play writing games, share writing, and study writing tips during every class. This class is to be fun but students will also learn something - so my teaching style is just that! We will have fun but we will also be focused and determined to learn more about writing. Learners will interact with me and others in the class by sharing writing, answering questions, asking questions, & more.

Prior experience with creative writing is not necessary - this course is for beginners with little to no publishing experience. I will adapt lessons on the spot to accommodate students who may need extra help or students who need enrichment.

Current Course Topic Schedule
⇢ Week One: Couplets & More - Learning about rhyme structure
⇢ Week Two: ME Poetry - Writing autobiographical poetry
⇢ Week of Three: Journaling - Fun and creative takes on journal writing
⇢ Week of Four: Imagery Writing - Using your senses to add detail to short stories
Learning Goals
By the end of each class, students will learn at least one writing tip/lesson that they can use in their creative writing in the future. They will also learn how to share writing aloud and add to their writing portfolio.
