Class Experience

In this student-centered class, participants will learn the foundational skills used in creating and writing from outlines. In each class, we will begin with a source text and work together to create a keyword outline. Students will then use their outlines to write an original paragraph. Participation and creativity will be encouraged but not required. The class will maintain a relaxed and fun atmosphere and include games and humor. During each class we will also highlight one grammar skill each week to help students write with accuracy and correct any areas of struggle. In addition, we will discuss one way to dress up our writing using easy-to-implement style strategies. Students may join class for one week or many until they feel comfortable with both creating an outline and writing from one and using the 12 writing dress-ups. All work will be completed in class. Class will cover a variety of topics that appeal to student interests.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hi! Thanks for checking out my profile. I'm excited for the opportunity to see you or your child in class. I have over 25 years of teaching experience with all things English including writing, grammar, and literature. I have an MA in Linguistics and a BA in English Literature from the University of DE as well as an MAME from Trinity School for Ministry. I love the English language, and I love teaching. I have taught English classes to middle school, high school, and college students. I like to make my classes fun and exciting by including games, music, and technology. (And you might even get a visit from my tortoise, Shell.) My classes are student-centered and discussion-based (not lecture heavy). When I'm not teaching, I'm probaby working on my most recent novel, reading, or playing basketball with my son. I can't wait to see you in class!
