Crash Course: Systems of Equations
This is a one-day crash course on how to perform solve systems of equations. It is designed for students who have been taught operations with integers but didn't understand or need to be brushed up on the concept before moving forward in math.

The student will be given a printable workbook. There is a before class section that students will be expected to do ahead of time. The workbook will also feature an in-class section and a practice (optional) section to do after the class is over. Answers will be given for all sections.

The following math concepts will be discussed:
How to solve systems of equations by graphing
How to solve systems of equations by substitution
How to solve systems of equations by elimination
(Optional, time permitting) How to solve systems of equation by Gaussian elimination
This crash course will only go over equations in the first degree. We will not be doing systems of equations with non-linear functions.

The class will be one day only and will be 1 and a half hours long.

All materials will be provided.

No grades or assessments will be performed in this course.

Teacher expertise and credentials
For the past 4.5 years, I have worked at a community college. During that time my job consisted of instructing math classes and working with students below college level math and English. During this time I saw a lot of students who were not prepared for the discovery and problem-solving element of math in college. Most students struggle with middle school math concepts in real-world applications. Without this foundation of math fluency and problem-solving student struggle with harder math concepts. As my child starts middle math the urgency of making sure she has a proper foundation of math became real. I decided to homeschool and joined this community of home-schoolers.
I believe all students can succeed when they are taught in a style they understand. I would describe my style as Charlotte Mason or discovery, but I feel students need a mix of drill or classical method for foundational math concepts. If you believe that this style is how your learner understands, then I encourage you to sign up for my course.
