Most learners want to dive right into a book, before testing the waters, because they do not know that reading comprehension begins before reading the main body of the text. Utilizing core reading strategies to build comprehension of fiction and non-fiction texts, learners will learn how to test the waters and become familiar with texts before diving in. This is an on-going class that will meet weekly. During each class, learners will learn and apply different core reading strategies to improve their reading comprehension skills. learners will learn core reading strategies interactively, utilizing group discussions, engaging slides, games, video clips, and interactive websites. Below you will find examples of reading strategies/skills your student will learn.
