Emphasis will be on recognizing and applying the differences between horizontal, vertical, and slanted lines in sketches and from their related equations. Familiarity with slope, midpoint, and distance formulas is necessary, but these concepts will be briefly reviewed. Students should have proficiency in manipulating algebraic terms and simplifying expressions. A number of sample problems of various types will be demonstrated by the teacher, completed with the teacher and student input, and completed individually by the students.
Learning Goals
The primary emphasis will be on developing proficiency in interpreting the graphs of lines from the corresponding related equations and vice versa. Examination of the relationship between parallel and perpendicular lines and their equations will also be included. The students will be expected to complete the graphs or write the equations of sample problems as part of the lesson.

Teacher expertise and credentials
I am a retired high school math teacher with 34 years of classroom experience, plus an additional 12 years of tutoring and 6 years of volunteer work at the high school. I thoroughly enjoy working with teenaged students.
I hope to start by offering one or two session courses on review topics that are essential in math classes as the student moves through the curriculum.
I hope to make the class helpful for the future and enjoyable in the present.
