Homework
1-2 hours per week. Students will submit a final draft of their typed essay within one week after class ends. All submissions received by the due date will receive feedback.
Assessment
The learner is assessed through written feedback of the final essay submitted.

In this class, students will examine a model essay. Students will be introduced to the organizational structure of an essay, as well as review topic sentences, supporting details that directly relate to the topic sentence, and smooth transitional words and phrases. At the end of the course, students will draft and submit a final copy of a five-paragraph essay that will receive feedback.

This course does not have any live meetings, course information will be delivered through the use of video presentations that learners will use to learn.

Class Video #1: Examine a model essay. Students will review the basic parts of an essay and practice identifying them. Learners will brainstorm and outline an essay topic.

Class Video #2: Create a powerful introduction
In this class, students learn how to write an introduction that immediately captures the reader's attention, offers background information and includes a three-point thesis.

Class Video #3: Constructing Body Paragraphs
In this class, students will write well-developed body paragraphs that contain:
1. One controlling idea
2. Sentences clearly related to topic sentence
3. Logical order
4. Thoroughly developed examples/evidence
5. Closing Sentence

Class Video #4: Write an Effective Conclusion+Revision/Editing
In this class, students will learn to write an effective conclusion that does not just summarize the information in the essay but leaves the reader with something to think about. 

Students will have two writing prompts to choose from. Repeat students are encouraged and welcomed to attend if additional practice is needed. Essay topics change often.

Learners will have one week after the final class to submit the final draft. All essays submitted by the due date will receive feedback.
