1 hour per week. Assignments will be given after each lesson. Students can return their assignments for grading and feedback. Students can communicate through classroom email to ask clarifying questions throughout the course.Assessment
Students can take a summative assessment at the end of the course to receive a percentage score based on accuracy. Students will also receive feedback about areas of strength and possible improvement.Class Experience
US Grade 6 - 7
Beginner Level
In this class, students explore concepts like "scaled copy," "scale factor," and "scale drawing" to determine when two figures are scaled versions of each other. They use tables to analyze measurements, understanding that angles remain the same while lengths scale by a factor and areas by the square of the factor. Students also create and interpret scale drawings, including maps and floor plans with both unit and non-unit scales. This is a 3 week course with 8 lessons. I will post a video for each lesson and an accompanying worksheets, graphic organizers, and visual aids for students weekly. Students can submit their work to the teacher through the classroom for feedback. My teaching style is positive and reaffirming. All students are capable, some need extra practice and support. Students can expect to receive feedback after every assignment is submitted and I will answer any clarifying questions through our classroom email.
Learning Goals
to describe some characteristics of a scaled copy.
to describe what the scale factor has to do with a figure and its scaled copy.

over 3 WeeksLesson 1:
What's a Scaled Copy
In this lesson, you'll learn what a scaled copy is and how to tell if a picture or shape is a scaled copy or not. You'll practice explaining changes with numbers, like saying, “All the lines are twice as long” or “Everything is one-third the size.”
This lesson is made for everyone, no matter how much math you already know, and it helps you solve problems step by step.

Lesson 2:
Corresponding Parts and Scale Factors
In this lesson, you'll learn about scaled copies and how to figure out if a shape or picture is a scaled copy of another. A scaled copy looks the same as the original shape, just bigger or smaller, without being stretched or squished. You'll also see that all the lines in a scaled copy change by the same amount—like if one line is half as long, all the other lines will be half as long too.
You’ll practice explaining these changes with numbers.
Lesson 3:
Let's Create Scaled Copies
You'll draw your own scaled copies of simple shapes, both on grids and without them. You'll also see that scaling works by multiplying, not adding. You'll get to explain your thinking about how scaling works and use tools like tracing paper or index cards to help you. As you work, try to use words like "scale factor" and "corresponding" to explain your ideas.
Lesson 4:
Scaled Relationships
In this lesson, you’ll explore the distances between points that aren’t connected by lines in both scaled and regular shapes. You’ll see that when one shape is a scaled copy of another, the distances between the points follow the same scale factor as the sides of the shape.

Learning Needs
This class offers visual aids, graphic organizers, breaking down problems into smaller steps, explicit instruction, and positive reinforcement which may support students with special needs.
Pre-Requisites
This class will benefit students who are in 6th or 7th grade who are learning to analyze shapes to determine if they are scaled copies. Students should be proficient with mathematical concepts up to grade 6.
Supply List
Students will need a calculator, pencil, paper, grid paper.
