With this game coding course using Scratch, kids can learn to code with ease. Scratch allows them to explore and create animated games like a Pro, with no need for all the text and typing of programming languages. The Scratch interface is dynamic and easy to use. Kids love the colorful visuals and lively platform.  This is a 6 week beginner course where kids create their own fun games during class. 

Week 1: Hungry Kitty
Week 2: Virtual Fish Bowl
Week 3: Taco Time
Week 4:  Virtual Pet
Week 5: Cat Pong
Week 6: Cross the Street

Block categories used will include motion, looks, sound, events, sensing, operators, and variables.  This class covers the use of some of each of the primary block types in Scratch.

Traditional coding methods can be a bit complex for kids to start with and that’s where Scratch comes in. Scratch simplifies the whole process of writing code by reducing it to building blocks and drag/drop features; even sounds are easily added with the drag and drop feature; the learning process is easier, engaging and fun for kids.

This class supports collaboration and learners may be prompted to work together to solve challenges.  

This class supports experimentation and encourages learners to try different combinations of blocks so that they can see what happens and learn to create their own unique and interesting designs.  

𝐈𝐌𝐏𝐎𝐑𝐓𝐀𝐍𝐓:Learners will need to be logged in to Scratch prior to the start of class.  Prior to class parents must create an account for students at http://scratch.mit.edu/join. Parents must agree to the terms and conditions of the Scratch website.  

𝐒𝐔𝐏𝐏𝐎𝐑𝐓𝐄𝐃 𝐁𝐑𝐎𝐖𝐒𝐄𝐑𝐒:The online version of Scratch should run on most browsers and operating systems.  That being said, the Scratch Team only maintains Scratch to ensure that it runs well on the following browsers:

*Learners will be able to be helped the most if they are able to log in to both Scratch and Zoom from the same Desktop/Laptop so that they can screen share.
