What will be taught? This course introduces the fundamentals of block-based programming using Scratch. Learners will explore game design, animation, and interactive storytelling while creating hands-on projects such as a solar system model, a dress-up game, and a Pacman-inspired game. The curriculum focuses on movement, visuals, and logical coding concepts that help build a strong programming foundation. What topics will be covered? The course covers essential coding skills, including: Basic programming concepts such as loops, conditional statements, and event-driven programming. Character movement and interactions using the coordinate system. Game mechanics like scoring, obstacles, and object behaviors. Visual effects and sprite customization for creative projects. Storytelling elements through animations and transitions. Project-based learning, where each session contributes to a new game or animation. How is the class structured? Each session follows a structured yet interactive format: Live Instruction (20-25 min): Explanation of coding concepts through live demonstrations. Project Development (25-30 min): Hands-on coding where learners apply concepts in real-time. Show & Share (5 min): Learners present their projects, receive feedback, and discuss improvements. Assignments are optional but encouraged for extra practice. How will the course be taught? A project-based learning approach ensures active engagement. Lessons include: ✅ Live coding demonstrations with step-by-step instructions. ✅ Interactive discussions to explore coding concepts. ✅ Mini-challenges that reinforce problem-solving skills. ✅ Guided hands-on coding sessions with real-time feedback. What’s the teaching style? The course follows an engaging, student-centered approach that encourages: 🎨 Creativity – Customizing projects with unique designs and ideas. 💡 Problem-solving – Debugging and refining code for better functionality. 🗣 Collaboration – Sharing projects, discussing solutions, and learning from peers. The focus is on experimentation, exploration, and structured learning while making coding fun and accessible. How much will learners interact? The class is highly interactive, ensuring learners actively participate through: Live coding exercises with instructor guidance. Class discussions and Q&A sessions.
