Hands-On Homeschool 1st Grade Math: Full Curriculum 2x/Week: Semester 1

In this 2x per week full-curriculum 1st grade class, first graders will learn addition, subtraction, time, and counting within 100 by 2s, 5s, and 10s using hands-on activities and manipulatives such as pop its and an abacus.

Beginner - Intermediate Level
Get ready for a fun and exciting journey into the world of 1st grade math! In this class, students will dive into essential math skills, mastering addition and subtraction within 20, telling time, and counting all the way up to 100. But we won't just be sitting around with pencils and paper – we're bringing math to life with hands-on activities and engaging tools!

We'll make learning a blast by using bubble pop fidgets, abacuses, clocks, and a variety of other cool manipulatives to help students grasp the fundamental concepts of addition, subtraction, time, and counting. Imagine popping bubbles while practicing addition or using a colorful abacus to visualize subtraction – it's learning disguised as play!

Our course syllabus lays out a detailed weekly breakdown of all the exciting topics we cover in this comprehensive 1st grade math class. Whether it's mastering the clock or solving real world word problems, each week is packed with activities designed to make math fun and engaging.

Here is a sample of what our first weekly class day might look like: 
- Welcome and Warm-Up

- Hands-On Activity with a Hands-On Demonstration, Guided Practice, and Independent Practice
- Wrap Up 

The second day will normally include the following: 
- Welcome and Warm-Up
- Review of Math Facts
- Math Fact Games

Math Fact Review Day
Each week, we will have a dedicated Math Fact Review Day to help students master this extremely critical skill that forms the foundation of all other math skills. Reviewing math facts is important because:

- Builds Speed and Accuracy: Mastering math facts helps students solve problems faster and more accurately.
- Boosts Confidence: Knowing their math facts gives students the confidence to tackle more complex problems.
- Supports Future Learning: A strong foundation in math facts is essential for success in more advanced math topics.

Other Details

Parental Guidance
Adult supervision and/or assistance with the use of safety scissors is needed especially when students do not have previous experience using scissors. Play-doh may contain wheat, which could cause and allergic reaction if ingested in those sensitive to wheat gluten or with Celiac Disease. We will occasionally use Blooket in class. Parental consent is required to use Blooket. Learners will not need an account and do not need to login.
