US Grade 4 - 6
During this class students will learn about the life of Cleopatra, the first female Pharo. Students will learn about Cleopatra's early life and the many great things she did for her land while facing the obstacle of being a young female leader in a time ruled mostly by men. This class will be taught through a combination of discussion and lecture style with Non-Fiction reading assignments. Students will discuss what it means to be a leader and how to be a good leader. Does it mean fair? We will compare Cleopatra (open discussion) to some modern leaders and see if we can find anything they have in common. Students will then compare themselves to these great leaders and do a short writing assignment. Students will have the option of several projects to complete after class if they choose. No background is necessary for this class! No homework will be given in this class. If you would like a graded assignment please let me know and I will have one ready for you.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hi! My name is Kathy and I live in Southern California. I love working with students all around the World and of all different ages. I mainly teach classes that are Language Arts based (reading, writing, spelling, and grammar). I also teach about Historical figures, especially if I can tie them into Literature. I also love teaching about animals, and doing story time for the younger kids.
I have been teaching for over 15 years. I have taught in traditional school settings, charter schools, home schooled my own children, and taught online. I have a BA in English as well as a K-12 Teaching Credential. I am very passionate about helping people learn to love reading and writing. I also love to help people that need a little extra help with spelling and grammar. It makes me so proud and happy to have a student tell me how much they think they are improving or to get answers correct on something they missed before.
My approach to teaching is interactive and hands on. I want my students to learn while having fun. I ask a lot of comprehension questions, group work, pair work, and projects (depending on the class). I try to do as much of the work in class as possible so that kids can still be kids once they are done.
My background is in English but I love History and Science too (especially the experiments). It wouldn't be unusual in one of my classes to have to make something that just pops into my mind because it seems fun. I love animals, chocolate, and all things Disney!
