In Mapping History, students will learn how ancient civilizations like Mesopotamia, Egypt, and China used geographic tools to create early maps. We will explore topics such as the types of tools cartographers used, the importance of rivers, cities, and mountains in ancient mapping, and how those early maps compare to modern ones. The class is structured to be interactive and engaging. We'll start with a brief introduction and discussion about ancient civilizations, followed by a short, captivating video. Students will then participate in hands-on activities where they can create their own fictional maps using techniques similar to those from the past. Throughout the class, I will use slides, visuals, and real-world examples to explain concepts, while encouraging students to share their thoughts and ask questions. My teaching style is energetic and student-centered. I use a mix of direct instruction, discussions, and activities that allow students to apply what they've learned in fun, creative ways. Learners will get to interact with me frequently, through guided discussions, answering questions during video segments, and sharing their own map creations. The goal is to create a fun, immersive environment where students feel like explorers of the ancient world!
