Class Experience

In this class we will briefly discuss the mythology surrounding Leprechauns. Where do they live? What do they look like? What happens if you catch one? How can you catch one? Share stories about trying to catch one- did it work?

We will then do a quick draw and read a couple of Leprechaun stories followed by building a Leprechaun Garden/Trap.

Stories include:
* The Story of the Leprechaun
* How to Catch A Leprechaun
* There Was An Old Lady Who Swallowed A Clover
* Luckiest Leprechaun

This Story Time is a little bit different than my others and is designed for older Elementary School ages so that they can build on their own. Younger students are welcome but will need parent assistance with the project.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hi! My name is Kathy and I live in Southern California. I love working with students all around the World and of all different ages. I mainly teach classes that are Language Arts based (reading, writing, spelling, and grammar). I also teach about Historical figures, especially if I can tie them into Literature. I also love teaching about animals, and doing story time for the younger kids.

I have been teaching for over 15 years. I have taught in traditional school settings, charter schools, home schooled my own children, and taught online. I have a BA in English as well as a K-12 Teaching Credential. I am very passionate about helping people learn to love reading and writing. I also love to help people that need a little extra help with spelling and grammar. It makes me so proud and happy to have a student tell me how much they think they are improving or to get answers correct on something they missed before.

My approach to teaching is interactive and hands on. I want my students to learn while having fun. I ask a lot of comprehension questions, group work, pair work, and projects (depending on the class). I try to do as much of the work in class as possible so that kids can still be kids once they are done.

 My background is in English but I love History and Science too (especially the experiments). It wouldn't be unusual in one of my classes to have to make something that just pops into my mind because it seems fun. I love animals, chocolate, and all things Disney!
