US Grade 2 - 5
In this class, learners will learn how to use regular and irregular verbs in the English simple past tense. I will explain the general rule, that English simple past tense verbs are similar to Chinese. We add an “ed” on the end of verbs, similar to the adding of “le” after a verb or clause in Chinese when referring to the past or a change in circumstance. The learner will complete an exercise adding “ed” to regular verbs in a short passage. Next, we will look at a list of the most common irregular verbs in the simple past tense. I will ask the learner if they know of any other irregular verbs. The learner will then test their knowledge by completing a passage using irregular verbs in the simple past tense. My teaching style is relaxed. It is a conversation between the learner and I, therefore the learner will have the opportunity to practise their spoken English. The learner can ask me questions at any time and also interact with other learners. I will use a white board and also pictures to aid understanding. No previous knowledge is required for this class but I am aware of the excellent teaching of English grammar in Chinese and Taiwanese schools. This class is an opportunity for learners to build on their knowledge with a native English speaker.
