This ongoing course will focus on thinking errors (also known as cognitive distortions) and how they can affect our moods, behaviors, choices, and feelings. Each week learners will get a short refresher on thinking errors prior to diving into the weekly topic. Each week will feature one or two thinking errors. Learners will get a definition, examples, and tools for challenging each thinking error. Classes will be made up of a mix of lecture, discussion, videos, and personal reflection. Other Details
Parental Guidance
Due to the sometimes sensitive nature of the topic of mental health, there will be limited opportunities for student interaction to protect learner privacy and prevent any sharing of confidential student health information. Learners will NOT be asked to share any information regarding past or current diagnoses, counseling experience, family history, mental health history, or other personal health information. This course is strictly focused on helping learners understand the psychological concept of thinking errors (cognitive distortions) while also giving learners hands-on strategies for challenging those thinking errors for themselves.
Supply List
Learners should have a pen/pencil and paper for reflection questions. If you can dedicate a specific notebook to journaling, that would be ideal but loose paper is just fine!
External Resources
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
