In this introductory class, students will learn about the 3D modeling program SketchUp. Students will not only get to see how you can create 3D models and what they can be used for, but they will create their own 3D models using free 3D modeling software. In this one-time course, students will see that they have the tools to create their own 3D models that could be used for architecture, interior design, furniture design, video game development, or creative expression. Students will be shown step by step how to create an account, view samples of what they could start drawing, and then they'll have a guided assignment of creating their very own first 3D model! This course will prove useful for many years for your student! It is the perfect introductory course for a student who is interested in 3D modeling.
Learning Goals
Students will learn how to use the free program, SketchUp, to create 3D models on the computer. Students will walk away with a better understanding of how 3D models are created, what they are used for, and exactly how to create their own.Other Details
Parental Guidance
This course will use the third party tool, SketchUp. It is a free online tool for 3D modeling that is accessed using a web browser. It was originally created by Google, and has since been obtained by Trimble .It can be accessed by a PC, Mac, or Chromebook. You will need to create an account in order to use SketchUp. Your student will be able to use this third party tool during class (and after if they so choose.)
In order to create the account, you can go to https://app.sketchup.com/ and either sing in with your Google account or your Apple ID or create an account with your email address.

I have a passion for technology, woodworking, 3D modeling, and FOOD! I have been an online instructor for eight years now for two state colleges. I have taught both undergraduate and graduate courses in computer science and educational technology. I have also taught computer science courses in person at a gifted and talented high school.
I was raised by a teacher and have a family full of them! Education was a priority in my home growing up and I am making it one in mine now that I have my own children. I believe education should be individualized and tailored to the learner. I also believe it should be fun! I believe in following your passions and learning your strengths.
My favorite thing to do is hang out with my family, cook and eat, and build 3D models of furniture on the computer and then build them in real life!Reviews
