In this multi-day class, students will learn by writing a book report on a book they have already (recently) finished. They'll learn how to incorporate more than just who, what, when and where.

In this multi-day class, students should come prepared, having already recently read a book they can write a report on. Through hands-on class assignments and practical examples, we will explore many different book reporting options such as compare/contrast, real world implications, hero/heroine point of view, etc. We will touch on the intricacies of oral book reports and how they differ from written book reports, but our emphasis will be on the written. The class format will be much like a workshop, where learners are busy the majority of the time. There will be homework. Week 1a - Overview of different types of book reports and exercises in compare/contrast reporting Week 1b - Looking at a book through the eyes of the hero/heroine. How does this make the story unique? Week 2a - Ways to make an oral book report more intriguing. In-class oral reporting on a short story. Week 2b - Review of our written reports so far. Feedback from teacher and fellow students.

I am also a writer of non-fiction, with well over 1000 published articles for entities such as Yahoo News, Home Depot, Quaker Oats, Curves, and many more.
I believe the best way for young people to learn is through games and hands-on activities, and I try to build those into each class I offer.
I love music in any form and am a proficient flutist. I have given flute lessons to dozens of students over the years and plan to begin giving lessons here on Outschool as well.
