Beginner Level
In this 12-week live online grammar course, students will learn the basics of identifying the parts of speech, the sentence elements, analyzing, and diagramming sentences. Please see the syllabus for a detailed description of the course agenda and a list of the topics covered. Learning sentence diagramming and analysis is a part of most classical curricula, but this interactive class is accessible to any student who needs a better understanding of grammar. New topics will be introduced using weekly slide show presentations and whiteboard activities. Students will be encouraged to interact with the material in class. We will have a class period dedicated to reviewing and practicing analysis and diagramming between new topics. Students should have that day's topic worksheet printed and ready to work on in class. Additionally, parents will be provided with teacher-created practice worksheets and answer keys. These optional homework pages allow parents to assess and grade their child's work at home. Student pages will be made available with and without primary handwriting writing lines to accommodate both older and younger students. I look forward to teaching your student!
Learning Goals
Students will strengthen their understanding of the English sentence. They will learn to identify the parts of speech and grammar elements. The will learn how to use symbols to analyze the sentences and then diagram them. Understanding sentence rules and structure will improve the student's writing mechanics.
