Description

Class Experience

Students will learn how to tune their guitar themselves, using the GuitarTuna app or GuitarTuna online tuner.
The students will be able to read guitar tablature, so that they can look up songs on their own, and understand how to read the tablature that they will run into.
Students will be able to read a chord diagram, and use proper fingerings for chords.
The students will learn some beginner, basic chords, with correct fingering and how to strum them. After practicing the chords, they will be used in some simple songs.
The students will be able to hold the guitar properly and use correct left hand positioning.
Students will be able to play an E minor pentatonic scale, and improvise a simple lead.
The students will be prepared to move on to the second level guitar class.
I have 20+ years experience, as a music teacher. I have taught piano, electric keyboard, guitar, and general music classes, in both the classroom and private settings.
I was head of the music department at a private high school in Maryland.
I taught private piano and guitar lessons at a guitar shop, for 5 years, in addition to my own private students in my studio.
I have a bachelor's degree in music education, from Towson University, plus graduate studies in music education.

I will upload song sheets, tablature, and some videos of how to play the songs, into the classroom each week. You can print the materials out and keep them in a folder if you like. You can also view the materials in the classroom, and practice from there.
Students will be given various things to practice each week, on their own, to be ready for the next week's lesson.
I recommend that students practice at least 20 to 30 minutes, at least 3 different days, during the week, in order to become familiar with the material, and to develop their skills.
Acoustic or Electric Guitar Guitar picks Guitartuna app - preferable on a separate device from the one they are signed into zoom on for class.
In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:
Each student's progress will be informally assessed during the lessons, and at the close of the course.
35 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 1 - 2 hours per week outside of class.
