1 hour per week. Learners are invited to practice the weekly mindset mantra outside of class to make powerful thought a habit. Learners will be encouraged to participate in a weekly challenge where they commit to practicing the skill of the week. In addition, I provide a class summary email to parents after class, which describes the new skill, explains the weekly challenge and any printables required to complete the weekly challenge.Class Experience
Plant the seeds of emotional intelligence in this engaging ongoing weekly class that will have your learner discovering invaluable life lessons about themselves and others while having fun. Each class will begin with a "mindset mantra." The beliefs that we hold about ourselves play a pivotal role in shaping our thinking, which then influence our behavior. The goal of the "mindset mantra" is to practice powerful statements that increase our self-confidence and feelings of worth and self-love. We then take a deep dive into a new feeling word so that learners can increase their emotions vocabulary and better understand how each feeling is experienced in the body. Each learner will be encouraged to practice this new vocabulary throughout the week. Brain imaging studies suggest that naming emotions decreases our emotional reactivity – it puts the “brakes” on our big emotional reactions and helps us feel calmer. Next, the class focus will move to the social emotional skill of the week. The lesson will be teacher-led but interactive. Each week will have an engaging hands-on activity to work on in class (printables are sent out before class). If you do not have a printer available, bringing paper and a pencil to class will be just fine. Each class also includes a relevant two-minute mindfulness activity to practice being in the present moment and being aware of breath and body. Practicing these strategies while calm enables your child to be more likely to use them in a moment of heightened emotion. Our class will conclude with an optional weekly challenge that pertains to the social or emotional skill of the week. The goal of the challenge is to keep your learner thinking about the new skill with the hopes of creating a positive new habit. I provide a detailed class summary after each lesson so that parents can have a good understanding of what was discussed in class and learners and parents can review important concepts together, if desired. I have earned a Master's degree in Counselling Psychology and teaching the next generation about emotional intelligence is a passion of mine. I love teaching this class!
