Many children on the autism spectrum or those who have special learning needs, have challenges and difficulties comprehending and responding to WH questions....who, what, where, when & why. These pragmatic langauge skills are important for success in a social group setting with peers. In this small class setting, we will be engagning with the students as they practice these important social and comprehension skills. We will explore WH questions that are commonly heard at school and in the community. We will also work on "how" questions, listen to stories and look at picture prompts to practice making inferences and predicting outcomes. In addition, we will be working on skills such as turn taking, keeping conversation flowing, staying on topic, listening to our classmates and making appropriate comments ....all while having fun and making friends! We will talk about our favorite things and utilize conversation games to help facilitate students sharing about themselves and asking questions of one another. This class is a great stepping stone for the student who needs smaller group practice before entering a larger social skills class. Once we feel your child is doing well in this small social group setting of 3-4 learners, we would love to try them in our larger social skills groups of 6-8 learners. Week of 2/16 Topic: Asking & Answering Who & What Questions Week of 2/23 Topic: Asking & Ansering Where & When Questions Week of 3/2 Topic: Asking appropriate questions to classmates and friends Week of 3/9 Topic: Inferring information in conversation
