Ballet classes include teaching in body alignment, technique and body position. Ballet is a foundational technique and is crucial to the technical development of many styles of dance. This is a beginner ballet class and no experience is needed. Students will learn foundational ballet technique to include 1st-5th position, relevé, plea, tendu, rond de jambe, pirouette turns, splits, pas de bourrée and more. This will all be applied through a choreographed ballet dance. Each class will start with a ballet warm-up including stretching and strength training. We will then teach the skills and technique portion of the class (listed above). Each student will be expected to demonstrate the skills from the previous week to get critique and feedback for growth. Each class will end with building on a dance we are learning to demonstrate the comprehension and growth in the ballet skills learned. In the final class each student will perform the skills and the dance as a solo performance for the other students in the class. Class attire and shoes will be needed. Proper class attire helps students remember proper class etiquette, helps the instructor correct proper form and posture, and promotes professionalism. Ballet requires focus and discipline both mentally and physically so students will be required to practice both during class time. There will be a time of sharing and social interaction as we wait for all students to join the class (usually the first 5 minutes) but after that students are expected to focus and concentrate on the skills being developed. The success in the performance will depend on the amount of work students put in each week.
